About Dr. Jaime Parker
Jaime Parker, PhD, LPC, NCC
Let’s strengthen relationships and foster personal resiliency through therapy. We can all become stuck from time to time. We can be stuck in patterns of behavior, life circumstances, thoughts, communication habits, and much more. Your journey through counseling offers you the opportunity to gain awareness and develop deeper insight into that feeling of “stuck.” This journey looks very different depending on your age and presenting concerns. Sometimes therapy may look like problem solving, other times it may look like an unbiased, non-judgmental space to discuss concerns.
My Approach to Counseling:
I believe that each person has their own story to tell and that they are the expert in their story. I like to use traditional and non-traditional methods with all ages in counseling sessions, such as creative, play-based activities, to keep communication open and engagement maximized. Sometimes, people struggle to find the words to express themselves; play-based activities can be the key to unlocking insight. I rely on strengths-based interventions, narrative therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, person centered therapy, and solution-focused therapy.
With nearly a decade of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families, I have helped clients address depression, anxiety, attention deficit and hyperactive behaviors, social difficulties, adjustment difficulties, behavior difficulties, anger, grief, divorce, and parenting concerns. I have worked in a variety of settings including military bases, schools, clinics, and private practice. I have also worked as an adjunct instructor at the graduate level teaching child and adolescent courses.
I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Millsaps College (2005), a Master’s degree in Counseling from William Carey University (2008), and a PhD in Counselor Education (2012) from the University of New Orleans. My dissertation research involved assessment of attachment relationships and play therapy interventions utilized by play therapists. I am a Mississippi Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC #1479). I am in the process of preparing my application for certification as a Registered Play Therapist. I have over 500 hours of play therapy specific supervised experience and over 100 hours of play therapy education.
My specialty is in Play Therapy and incorporating that into my work with children, adolescents, adults, and couples. I also specialize in work with the military population.
I am happiest spending time with my husband and two children and extended family. I am a native of the MS Gulf Coast and I am proud to serve the residents of our area.
